Dogs: Training

Dogs need good training. The BLUFFTON-WELLS COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER suggests professional training consisting one hour a week for eight weeks, with personal training continuing for at least one year. You need to find out who has the best training methods. Gentle persuasion is a good start. Both puppies and older dogs need to be trained, but need different attention. The prime time to socialize dogs is between six weeks and six months of age. This requires a lot of work, but means your dog will be responsive and able to cope with human behavior. Mature dogs from a shelter or pound may have behavior problems, and may be difficult to handle at first. Mostly these animals need love and security and with a little work, many mature dogs can become wonderful companions to their new owners, and have little trouble settling in.

Cats: Influences on Behavior

Cats are more independent then dogs. Kittens learn to groom themselves and use the litter box from their mothers. When a cat or a kitten becomes your companion, you need to provide love, security and an exciting environment in the home. All these are keys to a happy, sociable cat.
